In the past recent years, EOS Move Management has accompanied several relocations into the Swiss Confederation, in cities such as Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Lausanne, Bern and Winterthur, one of the most popular destinations for German citizens.
Customs Clearance for Switzerland
For the tax-free importation of goods and valuable into Switzerland, it is mandatory that a permanent change of residence has been established. Proof of such can be provided with an employment contract, apartment lease, etc.
Caution is advised on new purchases:
Furniture, vehicles etc. must have been used for at least 6 months prior to relocation to Switzerland, so that they can be imported duty-free.
Thereafter, the newly acquired items must be used for an additional 12 months after importing them to Switzerland. Therefore, it is advisable not to import new purchases into Switzerland.
Generally, it is possible to use your vehicle duty free up to two years. If the vehicle is not registered in your name, then there are further formalities that must be fulfilled. Please ask your Move Coordinator for more details.
Customs officials require an inventory list of all items. We would be happy to provide you with a template.
Attention: additional shipments must be listed at the time of the initial shipment.
There are import limitations on alcohol and food that are derived from non-EU countries. Souvenirs that are under species protection should be discussed with us in detail.
For pets, a pet passport, an identification in the form of a microchip implant or tattoo, as well as a rabies vaccination must be presented. For puppies under three months, a special veterinary certificate may be required under certain circumstances. Dogs that are meant to remain in Switzerland are required to be registered with a veterinarian within 10 days.
Entry
Permanent relocation entry into Switzerland is only possible during the hours of operation of the Swiss Customs office.
Required documents for entry are official identification papers/ID, proof of basic insurance with a Swiss health insurance, passport photo, family book / birth certificate, employment contract / lease agreement.
